Most of you know I had the opportunity to go to Uganda, Africa in the summer of 2015 to visit an organization called Musana.  What an amazing experience that was!  I adored the kids, enjoyed listening to the stories of the adults and loved partnering with Musana and the VBS that was held there.  This process was not only about the trip….It also involved joining an incredible team of partners here stateside and learning about the correct way to help those in need which I have seen firsthand that Musana does it right.

I was honored and humbled to be asked to co-lead the VBS team this year. I am happy to take this on as it will provide even more opportunities to serve and dive into people.  So, I am happy to announce I will be headed back to Musana from June 10th-17th with a team of 18 pretty incredible people!

What is Musana?

You can read more about Musana at www.musana.org.  Musana is not an organization that provides handouts but a Community Development Organization.   it includes a nursery, primary, and secondary school, a restaurant, craft shop, farm, and bakery (all teaching skill development run by Ugandans) and even a health care clinic.
The goal:  To see rural communities in Uganda develop using sustainable solutions that give HOPE and DIGNITY to the most vulnerable.
At Musana, the goal is to give hope, skills and education to people in poverty so that they can be self-sustainable and will no longer need help.  They do this through only employing Ugandans, creating businesses that help sustain the organization (the goal is to not have any foreign aid but to be 100% sustainable) and giving confidence and help for people to support themselves.  As far as the school is concerned,  I believe the future leaders of Uganda are are studying at Musana and learning a model that works to provide change in their own community in the future.

What will we be doing?

We will be:
1)    Working along side the Ugandan teachers at the school to assist and help with VBS in teaching 800+ children about our maker and His purpose for them.

2)    Assisting and supporting the people at Musana in whatever way they desire while we are there.
3)    Spending time with Musana staff and residents in the villages, observing the work God is already doing in their community and learning from them.
4)    Encouraging and fellowshipping with brothers and sisters in Christ, supporting each other in our walks with Christ.

Will you help partner with me in this trip?

1) Be a prayer partner!  Pray for our team that we will walk humbly and be encouragers as we enter their community. Pray for the people at Musana who we will be walking along side.
2) Be a financial partner! Donations are tax deductible*.  Here are two ways you can donate:
  • 1)    Send checks to:  Flatirons Community Church, 400 W. South Boulder Road, Suite 1700, Lafayette, CO 80026 (write “Misty Hymel – Musana VBS” in the subject line)
